{Book Review} Sugar and Spice

S&S_packshot copy

I’ve got a foodie romance novel that crosses the pond! Sugar & Spice follows Lilly, a Southern native, who cooks and caters in Nashville on a research trip to Cornwall for her new reality TV show. She’s determined to make the show a success after her ex manager and fiancee cheats on her.

Not long after arriving in Cornwall she meets an ex solider to temporarily drive her around who couldn’t be more interested in food or finding himself a girlfriend.

This was a fun read. The hilarity of Americans trying to make their way around the UK never gets old (high heels on cobblestone streets!). The author, Angela, is a Brit who lives in Nashville so it’s something she probably knows about from experience of being English in North America.

Besides a few continuity issues I enjoyed the story. There were enough elements, characters and plot turns to keep it interesting and exciting. The story does follow the traditional romance format. I don’t want to go into details and spoil any of the good bits. I’ll admit it I read these books because I love the formula! My only complaint would be I find the title unoriginal and not so much inspired by the events in the book. There are also several other books with the exact same title.

The food backdrop of the novel will keep the foodie in your excited. Lilly has her hand at some fairy butterfly cakes, with her American twist of course and travels all over the UK to sample cuisine from (fictional) chefs.

  1. I’m glad you enjoyed ‘Sugar and Spice’ and missed seeing your review somehow until today! The original title of the book was ‘The Way to a Hero’s Heart’ but the decision was made to change it.
