I had high hopes for the new Fat Witch Bake Sale book. The brownie book was one of the first I bought after I started blogging. The Shortbread Brownies I made from the book were the first photo that was accepted to foodgawker.

Every year for the last six years Alex asked me if I would make him mince pies. Every year I was mean and said no. They are plentiful back in the UK and were on sale all the time. The thought of that brown fruit mixture totally turned me off. I could not wrap my head around eating the stuff. It is just not part of the American Christmas tradition.

Last week the temperatures around here dropped and we actually got our first dusting of snow! It gets cold in London but I’m more used to the rain so I think this winter it’s going to be tough for me adjusting to the Connecticut cold. I’m so glad that I have some of these canned apples on hand. They’re perfect for making a last minute dessert. I just threw a can of the apples into a baking dish and make a easy crumble topping. Pop it in the oven and viola! Fast, easy and delicious crumble dessert in no time.

A few weeks ago my sister and I went apple picking. Kayla gave me her half of the apples to bake with. She just wanted to run around the orchard eating apples and generally getting sticky! I made apple butter with one half of the apple assortment (which is delicious by the way). I wanted to try my hand at something new with the other half of the apples but wanted to stick with canning so I could keep perfecting my technique.
