Sometimes the recipes that are the hardest are the ones that taste the best! I love to bake and be in the kitchen for hours but I’m not a fan of complicated and fussy recipes. About once every year I forget that and make a fussy recipe anyways. Then I remember why and don’t make another one for year. It’s a vicious cycle.

My Valentine’s Day Donut Cake was pretty crazy and insanely sweet but that’s what I do best. To contrast that crazy cake I made some very simple vanilla heart shaped cookies.

I was worried that we wouldn’t have enough desserts for Christmas. Don’t laugh! I worry about serious things like this. I’m glad I was worried enough because while I liked the mince pies I made I’m more of a chocolate dessert love than a fruit dessert lover.

It was my job this year to bring dessert for Thanksgiving. I brought a pumpkin pie but I also brought these Christmas Funfetti Shortbread Cookies. It felt appropriate that as we finished Thanksgiving dinner that we started the Christmas season by eating cookies and decorating my sister’s Christmas tree.

Let’s pretend that I’m not posting cookies with black and orange chocolate chips in December. Yet again time has got away with me and I have a huge backlog of posts. I never seem to be ahead of schedule. Thank you Pinterest for making me feel bad. I don’t have any amazing 12 Days of Christmas planned. I managed to make it into work without slipping in the ice and falling on my bum. Now that’s a win!

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Hard to believe that this is the first time I’ll be having Thanksgiving on American soil since 2000. I was a junior in high school that year and just got my learners permit. That makes me feel really old now. I’m easing myself back into the tradition this year. I’m going to my sisters house in New Hampshire. We’re getting up a dawn and driving over there from Connecticut on Thursday morning. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it doesn’t snow too hard.
