Now that Thanksgiving is nearly here it’s time to get ready for Christmas! I am very excited to be back in America for Thanksgiving but I will miss Christmas in the UK terribly. The UK has a lot more Christmas tradition (that or I’ve been away for too long). Just some of the things I’ll miss are Christmas Crackers, Boxing Day, Mince Pies, Roast Potatoes and the Queen’s Christmas Day speech.

Last week was National Bundt Day. These foodie holidays are a great excuse to dust off long forgotten pans shoved to the back of the pantry or even better to go out and find a new pan to fall in love with. I started baking along for National Bundt Day a few years ago after reading Mary’s blog. If you haven’t read her blog you should check it out. She’s a librarian in LA, makes amazing things with Jello and one year made 30 different bundts for National Bundt Day.

This is the second recipe that I made from The Macaroon Bible. I made this right after we moved into our new house. I had my Kitchenaid and one baking sheet and that’s about it. I had to wait about two months for the rest of our stuff to arrive by boat. I hate getting used to a new oven. Our oven in London was a sleek giant German one (massive compared to the average British one). The oven in the new house is a regular electric GE one.

All of our things from London arrived last week. I spent pretty much the whole weekend unpacking and putting it all away. I was also cursing that we’ll have to pack it all up again in about 11 months! I’m trying to push that very far from my mind. Moving international is a pretty big hoopla and our stuff arriving was nothing less than that. I felt pretty triumphant that when the movers arrived I noticed we were missing the box of our important family heirlooms and only because of my stubbornness they went and found OUR box at their previous drop off (how professional of them!).

Raise your hand if you get swept away with pumpkin fever every fall! The pumpkin craze finally reached the shores of the UK last autumn with the arrival of the pumpkin spice latte but those of us in the know knew where to find canned pumpkin years ago. During the pumpkin shortage of 2011 I bought and carried about 10 cans of pumpkin straight across London for fear of being without pumpkin pie. Eating and baking with pumpkin is more of a North American thing and when I arrived back in the US permanently, just over a month ago, I went crazy and bought every single pumpkin product I saw on the shelves.
