My light lemon and tea scented loaf cake turned out to be a big hit with my husband. He’s a meat and potatoes kind of guy so I was a little surprised, but then again he’ll eat nearly anything I put in front of him. I’m pretty lucky that he’s adventurous to try new ingredients and flavors. This is a great after Thanksgiving loaf. If you’re feeling overloaded with turkey leftovers the gentle and delicate flavors of this loaf are perfect.

Last week was National Bundt Day. These foodie holidays are a great excuse to dust off long forgotten pans shoved to the back of the pantry or even better to go out and find a new pan to fall in love with. I started baking along for National Bundt Day a few years ago after reading Mary’s blog. If you haven’t read her blog you should check it out. She’s a librarian in LA, makes amazing things with Jello and one year made 30 different bundts for National Bundt Day.

Raise your hand if you get swept away with pumpkin fever every fall! The pumpkin craze finally reached the shores of the UK last autumn with the arrival of the pumpkin spice latte but those of us in the know knew where to find canned pumpkin years ago. During the pumpkin shortage of 2011 I bought and carried about 10 cans of pumpkin straight across London for fear of being without pumpkin pie. Eating and baking with pumpkin is more of a North American thing and when I arrived back in the US permanently, just over a month ago, I went crazy and bought every single pumpkin product I saw on the shelves.

Better late than never! One month late I finally made my Julia Child inspired dessert. The cupcake book club will be back on track next week. I can’t wait to get back into the habit of reading again. Back in the UK I would get most of my reading in on my commute to work. I’m still too afraid to take my eye off the ball, or rather let my mind wander when it comes to the trains in America! After the great train debacle on my first day I’ve been consumed with getting on and off the right train everyday that I’m too stressed to read my kindle on the journey.

I just barely managed to survive my first week back at work. Even though I’m doing the same job as I was in London I wanted to make a good impression with my new office mates in Connecticut. Last Monday I got up nice and early and had Alex drop me off at the train station. I had studied the train schedule the day before and bought my ticket in advance. So I get on the train at the right time and it’s only 2 stops and about 15 minutes to Stamford. After about 20 minutes has elapsed I start to panic! We haven’t made any stops! I whip out my phone and check Google Maps. The little blue dot shows that we’re all the way to Greenwich, which is already way past my stop. I ask the guy standing next to me where is the train going and he said, “oh this is the express to Grand Central”.

While I was in the US it was my sister Kayla’s birthday! Even on vacation I manage to find time to bake :) I told Kayla that I would bake whatever she wanted. I tried to temp her with cheesecakes, amazingly tall layer cakes, birthday cakes in jars but in the end she decided that I could not sway her with my pretty Pinterest boards, she wanted a classic birthday cake.
