When we moved back to the US we suffered sticker shock on a few items at the grocery store! English muffins could sell for $4 full price, compared to 80p for a pack of Tesco brand English muffins. Where we live the grocery stores aren’t really in close proximity to each other either and our local Walmart doesn’t stock much food.

I made these cupcakes a few weeks ago for a bake off at work. I thought the idea of pumpkin beer cupcake was fun but everyone at work was really weirded out and couldn’t grasp the concept of a piece of bacon on top as a garnish. As a blogger I usually like to pull out the stops and impress everyone. It may have backfired a little this time but by the end of the bake off all of the cupcakes were eaten and I can assure you that they were delicious and not at all “weird”.
On one of our trips to Florida several years ago the hotel we were staying at had a bonfire pit especially for roasting s’mores. Even though it was 90 degrees outside we spent the night by the fire so I teach Alex about the delights of the s’more. We ended up eaten alive by mosquitoes but the s’mores were worth it.

I made these cornbread muffins all the way back for Thanksgiving! I never seem to be able to get over my blogging backlog. This is a pure savory muffin with bacon, a little bit of bacon grease and almost no sugar.

This is one of my new favorite ways to eat bacon. I don’t know about in America but in the UK they love jam, chutney and relishes. Not American hot dog relish but more like a savory jam. I’ve been to some great restaurants that serve their burgers with homemade relish instead of ketchup.
