My mom used to make batches of fudge every Christmas along with tons of Christmas cookies. She’d spend one day making everything and put the boxes of cookies in the freezer to keep us going all month long. We used to play family games at night and have milk and cookies. For some reason I haven’t made fudge very often!

I have a habit of making untested recipes for holidays. Sometimes it works out great and often times they only turn out so so! My family aren’t very picky though. As long as it’s edible they’re happy I’ve made these cookies before but tried making them square (by using a ziploc bag). Only about three (the ones in the picture) came perfect. The rest look like trapezoids.

I made a variety of desserts for Thanksgiving this year. I drove down to Knoxville for the weekend and made a few things in advance. I took the opportunity to make something loaded with whole milk and cream since it was going to be more than just me and Alex this year.

I love fall in Tennessee so far. The foliage isn’t quite as vibrant as it was in Connecticut but it’s still very beautiful. There are lots of green pastures and the first nine miles of my drive into work there are dozens of ponies wandering around! I have to be careful to pay attention to the road and not look over at the ponies too much.
This was the last recipe that I made in Connecticut before leaving for Tennessee. I’m not going to miss that tiny 1960’s kitchen at all! It had a tiny amount of counter space and the worst stove and oven I’ve ever used before! The cabinets were made of metal, which I had never seen before. I have a fancy double oven and 5 burner range in our new house. It does make me more efficient! I baked brownies and a batch of cookies at the same time for the first time ever. Now only if our refrigerator would arrive…
