After I read Miracle Pie I couldn’t stop thinking about banana cream pie! The main character in the novel, Katie, has weird pie related premonitions and can accurately make a pie to suit occasions before the event happens. The pies are never wrong. I couldn’t resist making a pie when I finished the book.

My book reviews have covered novels based on cake, chocolate, candy and cupcakes and this is the first novel that’s centered around pie. It has all the great components of a good foodie novel and some of my personal favorite things. A delicious storyline, a cute dog and a hunky love interest.

I’m a few days late but Christmas in July sounds a lot better than Christmas in August. Christmas is still five months away but if you plan on making any gifts this year it’s always best to get started early. I started my Christmas recipe scrap book in November last year and finished it a few days before Christmas. Now that I know we’re moving to the US I cleaned out my magazine collection. I didn’t want to pay to ship them so I tore out my favorite pages. I started making my second recipe scrap book in June and I might be done by Christmas.

My huge blogging backlog is actually coming in handy right now! With all of the moving preparations it’s been crazy around here. The movers are booked for later this month and it looks like a hurricane came and hit our flat. There are piles of stuff everywhere. It’s surprising how much stuff I had crammed in 600 square feet and I must have thrown away 15 bags of junk and rubbish! I’ve already sold my Kitchenaid and some of my other electrical equipment. My posts for the next month or two will probably be easy one bowl or no bake recipes.

For this month’s book club I have chosen Julia Child’s My Life in France (US and UK). The book details Julia’s life in Paris in 1948 and her journey in the kitchen. I felt this selection was appropriate for this month since I’ll soon be departing from Europe myself and going back to the US. There will be 2 months to read since I’ll be in transit to the US in less than a month now. You can also read Julia & Julia for extra brownie points.
