As soon as I finished Rosie Hopkins’ Sweet Shop of Dreams I knew I wanted to make one of the traditional British sweets mentioned in the book but with a modern twist. I decided on the simple Coconut Ice but I made the top half of the sweet raspberry flavored with jam.

I made these brownies but I accidentally over baked them and they turned out being a little too cakey for my liking. Rather than throwing them away I decided to make Brownie bread pudding!

Double Chocolate Brownies

These don’t look like the fudgiest brownies ever but that’s cause I left them in the oven too long and they resemble chocolate cake. Since I overcooked these babies by accident I made them into something really special! All will be revealed in tomorrow’s post.

Jenny Colgan’s new novel Rosie Hopkins’ Sweet Shop of Dreams is a refreshing light summer read full of childhood nostalgia for traditional sweets. I enjoyed reading the book and having my mind wander with the thought of a quiet country life and candy…oh, the candy! If you get through this novel without drooling or with a bag of candy sweets at your side you must have a lot more will power than I do!
