2014 Baking Challenges

It’s nice to look back on the year and reflect. It’s been a huge year for me too. After 11 years living in the UK I moved 3,500 miles away to Connecticut. It’s nice to look at what’s been accomplished and how far I’ve come but really the year is over and it’s time to move forward!

I strive to be different on this blog. If it’s the same as every other blog then why come and stop here? Last year I decided that I wanted to do something different. I wanted to show everyone that I’m so not perfect (not that I ever pretend I am). I ended 2012 with all the disastrous desserts that didn’t make it onto the blog (and my favorite leaning tower of cake).

This year I’m mixing it up again and writing down a few baking challenges for 2014. The idea is to continue to try new and exciting things. I’ve picked 3 things to try in 2014 (I have made plenty of pie crusts but not yet mastered this technique). Numbers 2 and 3 are pretty tough so just trying them is going to be fun.

1. Pie crust

2. Croissants

3. Souffle

What’s the one dish that you’ve always wanted to make yourself from scratch but we’re too afraid?

Happy New Year!

P.S You can read the traditional round ups I wrote in 2011 and 2010.

  1. Well, I know what you mean about pie crust – although I’ve found a great recipe, I’m still a bit hit and miss with it. The other thing I really want to try in 2014 is Danish pastries from scratch (uh oh – puff pastry!).

Hope you have a great New Year with best wishes for 2014, and thanks for all the great blog posts this year – I’ve really enjoyed keeping up with them! :) xx

    • Happy new year Susie! Puff pastry sounds like a good challenge. I made rough puff once.
I hope you’re feeling better and looking forward to your 2014 posts x

  2. Hello :)
Crossaints are also still on my list 😉 one day I will make it… 😛
I wish you a very happy new year 2014!!

  3. Good luck with your baking goals for 2014! Croissants scare the pants off me so go boldly and bravely into your uncharted territory. ^-^
Hopefully all your bakes in the year to come are delicious even if they lean like the leaning tower of cake. :)
