This is the first recipe I made from Sweet. I made this a few weeks before I left London and was looking for a few simple recipes to use up the rest of my flour, sugar and baking chips. The simple things really are the best. These chocolate, oatey cookies are perfectly chewy and a nice balance of sweet and salty. The original recipe was more traditional than my variation. It called for raisins but Reese’s Pieces are a little more fun.

After I made this cake I’m so wishing it was my birthday or someone else’s birthday. I always wanted to make a cookie cake and I had some extra candy and cocoa powder to use up before the big move. It was incredibly easy to make and a great alternative to cake.

I feel like that blob of ice cream in the photo right now. It was about 85 degrees in London this weekend and I dragged Alex to Cambridge for the afternoon on Saturday. It may have been scorching hot but it was worth it! We had a really nice afternoon. I couldn’t believe that I’ve lived here for more than 10 years and not been before.

It was such a scorcher this weekend so I didn’t spend a whole lot of time baking. Our kitchen is one tiny little room so it’s nice and cozy in the winter but unbearable once the temperature goes above 70 degrees. Since this is only the second nice weekend all summer I didn’t mind.

I’m continuing in my quest to use up my American baking supplies. I still have about 10 bags of various chocolate chips, some with just a handful of chips left. I always think I’ll save them for something exciting or I just can’t bear to throw them away. I see a lot more cookies in my future. I used up the last of my marshmallow bits for these delicious pretzel marshmallow cookies.
