Red Velvet Microwave Cake

My Dad loves dessert just as much as I do and he sent me a recipe for five minute microwave cake. I couldn’t say no! Especially since it only takes five minutes to make.

It has a very spongy texture and eaten on it’s own isn’t very good. I enjoyed serving it in this fun tea cup and soaking it in some ice cream. This would be a fun recipe to make if you lived in a dorm room or anywhere without access to a kitchen.

Red Velvet Microwave Cake
adapted from Bang Style serves 1

Ingredients
4 tbs plain flour
4 tbs sugar
1 tbs cocoa powder (you could cut this down to 1/2 tbs to make the red more pronounced)
1 egg
3 tbs buttermilk
3 tbs vegetable oil
Splash of vanilla
red gel color

1. In a microwave safe mug mix the flour, sugar and cocoa together. Stir the egg in thoroughly. Add the buttermilk, oil, vanilla and red color. Mix until combined (make sure to get all the way to the bottom).

2. Place in the microwave for 3-4 minutes.

3. Allow to cool. Tip out and slice in half. Place half in a tea cup with one or two scoops of ice cream. Place the second cake half on and top with more ice cream.

4. Eat immediately.

Ha ha, the idea of a cake that takes 5 minutes to bake sounds awful but I’ll take your word for it! Love the fact that it’s something different to try.
