After our whirlwind afternoon trip to NYC this week I was so shattered that I couldn’t muster much more energy than curling up with a good book in the comfort of the AC.
Four Leaf Clover takes us to a fictional town in an Australian suburb. Clover has just opened up her own cafe when she finds that one of the national bakery chains, Upper Crust, is opening up across the street. Despite the competition Clover isn’t too worried. She’s positive the locals will prefer her local brand of hospitality. The only thing Clover has to worry about is the good looking owner of the conglomerate chain, Liam.
I read a lot of chick lit and romance novels and it was nice to read one written by an Australian with a different backdrop. I liked the main character and her strong insistence that she can make it on her own and take care of her family without a man coming to save the day. The supporting characters were a little one dimensional and felt more like props. A sub plot about two of the characters was started and then completely forgotten. I felt like I was left hanging.
Overall this was a light easy read and if you’re in the mood for a little romance down under you’ll like Four Leaf Clover.
