I’d like to thank every one that read Semi Sweet for the first Cupcake Book Club. I realize it’s a big task to both bake and read a book with everyone’s busy schedules. I had a few people say they read the book which is fantastic. I also got a few inspired creations. I love seeing everyone’s opinions of the book and what about the book inspired them. Here they are in no particular order. See you next month for Sweet Shop of Dreams!
Ros Baking Addict made Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes with a hidden surprise! She twisted her ankle and had the book to keep her company while she reocvered. Ros though the book was ”light, easy reading and the characters draw you in. There’s enough sub-plots to keep it interesting without being too distracting from the main story. I LOVE peanut butter and chocolate and it was on my shortlist of things to bake but when I read the end where she made the giant peanut butter cupcake for Adam’s birthday it really was a no-brainer!”
Sophia, the art director of my blog and one of my BFF’s from San Fransisco, made Vivienne’s “sweet and a little coconuts” cupcake. Inspired by Vivienne, the shy musician, her favorite character in the book.
Susie @ Fold in the Flour also made Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes. Here’s Susie’s two cents on the book, “I really enjoyed the story of Hannah opening her cupcakery whilst navigating what life throws at her over a seven month period. These were inspired by Hannah’s best friend, Adam, who bought six cupcakes on her opening day and in a later scene is tucking in to one of them – chocolate peanut butter.”
I enjoyed the many sub plots of the book and during out twitter discussion that it’s a realistic romance. Dealing with the downs of life while trying to do your job. I chose to make a Irish Cream Caramel Cupcakes as the book is set in Ireland. I also tried my best to make them “sexy” as “sexy buns” are mentioned several times in the book by Hannah’s new boyfriend.
My lovely sister Kayla aka, The Pin Up Girl, made Chocolate Coconut Cupcakes. Kayla says these cupcakes would help heal her busted heart!
Fiona from Edinburgh, who has recently started her own blog made Vanilla & Coconut cupcakes. She says, “I really like this book, for what I would consider to be an easy read I was surprised at how involved I got with the characters, I genuinely just wanted to keep reading!I liked how there were lots of cupcake flavours mentioned but not how they were executed, it allowed me to be creative. I chose vanilla coconut as my starting point. My treat is a vanilla cupcake filled with a coconut pastry cream. The top is frosted with a marshmallow frosting and the whole thing topped with toasted dessicated coconut”. Thank you Fiona, they look lovely!
Thank you everyone!
