I love making special things for breakfast around Christmas time. This Red Velvet Hot Chocolate with cream cheese whipped cream is a perfect indulgent treat for a cold morning. I can’t get enough of this fresh whipped cream!
I made mine with semi-skimmed milk. You could use any milk of your choosing. The higher the fat content the more creamy the hot chocolate will be. The red food coloring is fun but it’s not necessary if you don’t want to use it.
1 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
4 tbs full fat cream cheese (or to taste)
4 cups milk
3/4 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp red food coloring (I used LorAnn Red Velvet Emulsion)
- In a medium sized bowl whip the cream and sugar to soft peaks. Add the vanilla and cream cheese and whip until thick and fluffy.
- In a saucepan heat the milk and chocolate chips until melted and hot. Remove from the heat and stir in the red coloring. If you have one blitz the milk for a few seconds with an aero latte stick.
- Pour the milk mixture into cups and tops with a scoop of whipped cream.
