Brown Sugar Coffee Syrup

I love donuts. I love donuts almost as much as I love cake. There I said it. Phew, feels good to get it out in the open. I think I get it from my parents.

They would never admit it or think that it’s true though. My dad reads my blog every morning so I know he’s going to read this.
Dad, you always say that you never buy donuts but every time I come to visit there are always donuts on the counter.
My dad is a donut and coffee nut but he at least goes to the gym on a regular basis. I will do anything to avoid going to the gym. I don’t mind being outside and getting exercise like walking and swimming but I just can’t find a rhythm at the gym.

I was a semi finalist in a Dunkin Donuts contest at the end of last year and won a gift card. Having a gift card for Dunkin was a little like winning the lottery but every time I went in for a coffee I was coming out with a donut, a few too many donuts.
There is a new brown sugar latte at Dunkin Donuts, which I think is a great flavor. Most cafes in Europe have brown sugar to stir in your lattes. I whipped up a made at home version of the syrup with light brown sugar so I can control the amount of sugar in my coffee myself.
Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
splash of vanilla (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium high heat combine the water and sugars. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and bring to a simmer.
- Simmer for two minutes and remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla and pour into a sterilized jar. Refrigerate and use within one month.

I miss Dunkin Donuts! I think you might inspire me to make my own version of some of their treats…
